Your Organic Garden
There is always a confusion between an organic origin of the product and organic certified products. In Australia, two main organisations give products an "organic" status: The National Association for Sustainable Agriculture (NASAA) and The Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA). Organic certification is a regulatory and audit system aimed at providing guidelines and rules (known as Standards) for those wishing to become producers, processors or retailers/wholesalers/exporters of organic products. Certification provides a system of traceability ensuring the integrity of the organic product from ‘paddock to plate’. Organic certification helps to protect both consumers and producers of organic food from false claims and misleading labelling of organic products. When something is 'Certified Organic' it means that no synthesized insectidies, herbicides or fungicides have been used in the production, harvest, storage or transportation of the product. Organic certification ensures that what you buy is actually organic.
